Event description

Friday 3 April, 1pm, free

As part of the Washington Folk Festival, First Friday Folk will be hosting a concert featuring singers from the North East. As well as our usual complement of excellent singers and poets, we will be featuring a number of established local artists.

Ken Tonge and Jaene Fitzgerald

Ken and Jaene form the vocal lineup for the North’s leading skiffle band, Hop, Skiffle and Jump, but also enjoy performing traditional folk songs. Jaene’s  haunting voice is perfect for the North East ballads in which she specialises while Ken has a wide range of folk songs amassed after over 50 years of playing in folk clubs. Accompanied on guitar and banjo, they give us a set of ‘proper’ folk songs which include something for everyone.

Barry and Ingrid Temple

Harmony singers of traditional and original songs, Barry and Ingrid have delighted audiences in the north of England over many years. Mainly singing accapella, with Barry using guitar or concertina, Barry’s self panned songs are heard throughout the folk world. With some high quality ‘banter’ between songs they provide a really first class entertaining set.

Salty Dog

Salty Dog are three guys who play for,the fun of it and for the love of the music. They’ve been around the block a few times, learning their rt and chasing dreams. The outside might look a bit worn but inside they’re still teenagers learning to play. Accompanied on guitar, bass and harmonica, they perform a top quality mix of all kinds of acoustic music.
