Event description
Bracelets and Peace based in North East England, Spain and Ukraine are proud to present the work of the Ukrainian photographer Kostiantyn Revutsky showing stark photographs of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The photos have been on display at various exhibitions across the North East of England. Their journey from Ukraine to our region is interesting.
In 2023, Anna Duchenko, co-founder of Bracelets and Peace, who is the Vice Principal of Vinnytsia Primary School 25 in Ukraine, visited an exhibition by the photographer, Kostiantyn Revutsky.
Anna shared her admiration for his work and the messages represented in the photographs. At that time, Kevin Roddam, a tireless volunteer from the North East, was in Ukraine and he met Anna.
Anna came up with the idea of sending a selection of the photographs to the UK via Kevin, who was soon returning back from his trip.
Kevin delivered the photos to Anne Robinson of Bracelets and Peace. Anne got together with local friends Helene Kell and Tom Sharples and the idea of holding an exhibition started to take shape.
The photos were first shown in Prince Bishops Place, Durham thanks to Durham Elvet Rotary.
Another exhibition was held, in August 2024, at Brandon Hall Community Centre thanks again to Tom Sharples for his time and organisation skills.
Later Anne Robinson talked to an old school friend who suggested contacting Arts Centre Washingtonabout holding an exhibition there. Peter and Caroline Holmes helped to arrange the exhibition.
And here we are now, after a wonderful chain of people coming together to get these photos you can see here on show.
