Event description

Spotlight is Arts Centre Washington’s annual open exhibition. Every year, we invite submissions from artists based in North East England working in a range of mediums, including two-dimensional media, sculpture, textile, ceramics, glass and moving image.

This year, we asked artists to respond to the theme of ‘Freedom – Then & Now‘. The theme was inspired by Arts Centre Washington’s involvement with Our Freedom: Then & Now – a national project reflecting what freedom means to local people and their communities, following the 80th anniversary of VE/VJ Day.

We were incredibly impressed by the range and quality of work and received submissions from artists of all different backgrounds and levels of experience. We ultimately selected work from 41 artists to be included in the exhibition.

*Many of the works are for sale. Please contact acw@sunderland.gov.uk for more information
