The internationally acclaimed Royal Northern Sinfonia returns to Arts Centre Washington with an enchanting programme that celebrates the rich colours, warmth and character of the wind quintet. Showcasing the distinctive voices of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn, this intimate concert brings together three much-loved works that sparkle with melody, personality and charm.
Samuel Barber’s Summer Music opens the programme with a vivid evocation of long, golden afternoons. Its flowing melodies drift seamlessly between the instruments, creating a relaxed and atmospheric sound world that captures the languid beauty of summer days.
Leoš Janáček’s Mládí (Youth) bursts with energy and imagination. Inspired by memories of the composer’s early years, the work is full of youthful exuberance, playful character and infectious rhythms, with each instrument contributing to its vibrant musical storytelling.
