Event description
Dum de dum, dum de dum… Most people remember the iconic BBC Dr. Who theme tune made in the 1960’s in the BBC Radiophonic workshop – but do you know anything about the woman who produced it?
This talk by Dr. Caroline Mitchell introduces you to Daphne Oram and Delia Derbyshire who worked as musicians, composers and sound producers at the BBC in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s.
Find out more about their lives at the BBC and how their influence on music and sound still resonates through the decades, including influencing ‘The Crocodile Collective’ – the community podcasting group at Arts Centre Washington!
Dr. Caroline Mitchell is Professor of Radio and Participation at the University of Sunderland.
