Event description

Unleash your imagination and dive into the wide world of words in this vibrant, hands‑on workshop led by writer Bridget Hamilton. Whether you’re an experienced storyteller or simply curious about trying something new, this session offers the perfect chance to stretch your creative writing muscles and experiment across a range of styles.

Guided by Bridget, you’ll explore the full spectrum of creative writing—from poetry and prose to song lyrics, monologues, speeches, and hybrid forms in between. Through playful prompts, quick-fire exercises, and supportive group discussion, you’ll learn how to spark ideas, shape your voice, and unlock fresh ways of expressing yourself on the page.

Inspired by this year’s Bright Lights: Youth Arts Exhibition, you’ll have the opportunity to respond directly to artworks on display. Choose a piece that captures your attention—whether bold, quiet, strange, funny, or moving—and let it guide your imagination as you craft a written response. This could take the form of a story, poem, scene, song, or something entirely your own.

Selected pieces created during the workshop will even be featured within the exhibition itself, allowing your words to sit alongside the artworks that inspired them—a chance to add your voice to the city’s broader creative conversation.

Come write, explore, experiment, and let the art around you spark ideas you never expected. Who knows what words you’ll discover?
