Event description
Join us at Arts Centre Washington this September for a screening of Chris Smith’s tale of ambition, obsession and the American dream – American Movie.
Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, is a long way from Hollywood, but Mark Borchardt has a dream. Over two years, lifelong slacker/amateur auteur Mark battles through financial decline, spiritual crisis and endless takes to make his feature length debut.
A landmark of American independent cinema and possibly the funniest documentary ever made, American Movie left an indelible mark on the non-fiction landscape upon it’s release and inspired a generation of no-budget filmmakers to pick up a camera.
Sunderland Film Club
This screening is part of Sunderland Film Club – Wearside’s documentary and independent focused community cinema, hosting monthly screenings, talks and workshops at Arts Centre Washington and Port Independent.
Sunderland Film Club is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
