About Motherfolk

“Motherhood is full of stories. When I arrived at baby groups with my first child, I was so anxious that I was doing motherhood wrong, that I couldn’t bring myself to get below small talk, in case I revealed something unworthy about myself. And when I did talk, I was told off by the group leader.

I had found motherhood culture to go no deeper than a photo opportunity. None of us had names – we were all just “Mum”. By the time had my second child, I knew that this time, things had to be different – for me, and for other mothers. Cue MotherFolk.

I created this movement as a gathering place for mothers and their stories; where mothers can write to process their transition into motherhood, and share to support each other through it. Where mothers can speak their truth, whatever it is, without fear of judgement. Where mothers can reclaim the motherhood narrative for themselves.

Wherever you are in your story, you are welcome here, and I can’t wait to meet you.”
