Event description
Artist Audrey Amiss documented her everyday life in a striking visual diary of hundreds of sketches, paintings, scrapbooks and diaries.
When she died, her family donated her archive to Wellcome Collection. In this talk, archivist Elena Carter provides fascinating insight into the process of cataloguing and caring for her collection to understanding the artist’s life.
Audrey Amiss: Kitchen Sink Realism is on display at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art at Culture House, Sunderland. The exhibition will be open to view before the talk commences at 6pm.
Biography
Elena Carter focuses on developing the collections at Wellcome to challenge the way that we think and feel about health. Elena is particularly interested in radical and social histories and material that gives voice to marginalised groups. As Collections Development Archivist, she works directly with people to find the best home for their materials, with a focus on working collaboratively and ethically.
