Creative Sparks Club

Creative Sparks Clubs provide weekly after-school activities for under 12s that includes creative activities led by artists and supported by youth workers.

The clubs are delivered in partnership with four community-based organisations – Community Opportunities in Downhill, Back on the Map in Hendon, Usworth Colliery Primary School and Hope4All CIC in Pennywell.

Across the year, the four clubs have delivered 67 creative workshops with 75 children, resulting in 738 creative engagements. Artforms included visual arts, ceramics, creative writing, graffiti art, drama, fashion and puppet making.

The clubs also took part in a new programme of free cultural visits starting in February when 29 children and their families watched Unfolding Theatre’s ‘Here be Dragons’ as part of The Cultural Spring’s Bitesize Programme.

Culture Start has made a real impact on the children attending the group. They have been exposed to activities they would not necessarily have access to. The feedback has been very positive, and it has been incredible seeing the children enjoy culture and the arts, and take part and bring their own talents to the group. I look forward to seeing the impact the fantastic work Sunderland Culture bring to our communities now and in the future.
