  • Are aged 16 or over
  • Are kind, respectful, curious and interested
  • Enjoy helping others

It doesn’t matter if you’ve lived in Sunderland all your life or are new to the city, whether you work or are unemployed, or if you have volunteered before. If you want to join us, we would love to hear from you!

What kind of training will I get?

All of our City Volunteers receive free high-quality training designed to set you up to confidently volunteer at a vast range of events. This includes Customer Service, Safeguarding, and Health & Safety.

It’s a great way to build confidence, learn new skills, and boost your CV.

Do I need to have a DBS check?

To qualify to be a City Volunteer, you will need to go through an Enhanced DBS check.

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a background check that helps organisations make safer recruitment decisions by revealing any criminal records an individual may have.

If you have concerns or worries about this check, please email Posy at posy.jowett@sunderlandculture.org.uk

I am 16-18 years old, is there anything else I need to know about City Volunteers?

We want to enable young people aged 16-18 to take part in exciting volunteering opportunities. However, some opportunities may require a parent or responsible adult to accompany you while you volunteer with us.

Please keep this in mind.

If there’s anything you’re concerned about or if you have any questions, get in touch with our City Volunteers Lead, Posy: posy.jowett@sunderlandculture.org.uk
