Event description

We’re opening our doors early for Relaxed Openings, designed especially for deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent young people who live, study or work in Sunderland and their carers.

These sessions provide a calm and supportive environment to explore the Museum & Winter Gardens before the general public arrives.

Whether you want to enjoy the galleries, take in the tropical plants, or simply spend time in a peaceful space, this is your opportunity to experience the museum at your own pace.

What to Expect

  • Quieter spaces with reduced noise and fewer visitors.
  • Friendly staff available to offer assistance and answer questions.
  • Freedom to explore without the usual crowds.
  • Accessible facilities, including lifts and seating areas.

Booking and Cost

Entry is free, but we are limiting bookings to 20 people per slot to help us create the best experience for everyone.

Additional Information

  • Carers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
  • Pre-visit information, venue walkthroughs and social stories are available.
