Event description

Join young people from Sunderland College for a celebration of art and creativity as they take over the Museum for the day. Enjoy fabulous refreshments from Sea Change café and take something home from our arty giveaway station.

This event showcases creative work made by autistic young people, living in Sunderland. Over the last few months, the group of 16 to 25-year-olds have taken part in project entitled Autonomy which has enabled social connection through creative activity. The overarching aim is to ensure that young autistic people have the freedom and opportunity to collaboratively enjoy creative and cultural opportunities and celebrate their unique qualities and preferences.

This event is designed for neurodivergent and disabled young adults and their families. It is suitable for all ages, but younger children will need 1-1 adult support with some activities.

Autonomy has been supported by the Association of Independent Museums (AIM) Connected Communities programme which is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Know Your Neighbourhood Fund, through Arts Council England.
